The Company

Scription Dance Theatre is a Chicago-based contemporary dance company directed by Matt Haskett. We aim to script narrative into motion. Scription strives to create opportunities for dancers to tap into their theatrical instincts in work that always seeks to tell a story.

The company is collaborative in nature and values world building, character development, and dramatic tension all told through a contemporary blend of movement. With our beginning Chapter in the works, you can expect our upcoming Dance film and our first annual show coming december 2026.

Originally from Northern Virginia, Matt Haskett grew up in a competition dance studio where he trained in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip-hop. He continued his education in dance at James Madison University where Matt started his choreographic journey while also being a member of the Virginia Repertory Dance Company as well as Mozaic Dance Team.

Following his time at JMU, Matt moved to Chicago with dreams of dancing and choreographing professionally where he met Venetia Stifler and Concert Dance Inc.Matt now tours the nation with Catapult Entertainment. In between tours, he has started his own dance company, Scription Dance Theatre. The company alllows Matt to commit to his choreographic craft and create opportunities for working movement artists in Chicago.

  • Scription Dance Theatre debuted their first company work, titled BEAR, in late April at the Rooted Space Common Ground Showcase.

    Scription then performed a section of the duet from Bear at the 2026 Simantikos Choreo-Kickoff. The duet was performed by Ashley Fox and Sawyer Newsome.

    Scription Dance Theatre was also invited to premiere a solo titled, Genesis, at the 2026 Dance city Festival in both Chicago and New York city. The solo was performed in both locations by Lorelai Delano.

  • We have finished post-production on our newest dance film, Bear, which will premiere at our first annual show, Impasse, coming to Danztheatre Ensemble in Chicago December 11th.
